I found this in circ the other day and grabbed it because i collect the small faced bills. I was excited to see the date... but noticed this odd marking on the bottom of it. it does NOT look like it was done after the mint (it looks like the ink that marks the border of the bill) any ideas? i'm guessing it's some kind of allignment marker of sorts
Eight to five, and half your money back if you lose, it wasn't there when the sheet came off the press. If there were alignment markers on the plates, there would be a whole bunch more of them.
Sorry xeno108, but I agree with satootoko. Something about it doesn't look right to me. Perhaps it was made by a counting machine, or a bank stamp. Those could give the impression, particularly if they used black ink, of something from the BEP.
Hmmm...gonna side with xeno on this one. Look at the wear....the mark itself has been affected, and has the same color and pixilation pattern of the printed material. I think its original, but as to what it is???? I'd guess its the begining of an ink drip as they tend to be tear drop shaped with long tails. Maybe Grim knows
The wear is not relevent, as all that attests to is that it is an old mark. I have, however, seen similar (but thinner) lines on new $1 notes.
