Look of the coin is odd. Cant tell if its a cleaning or something else going on with the surfaces, this 84CC just looks odd and I can;t put my finger on it. More experienced eyes, what is going on with this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/204435017870?
HELP! I don't get it? How can you guys tell that it's a counterfeit? Lost in CT. That's why I don't buy coins from Ebay anymore.
I only own 2. One I won and the other is graded by PCGS but I'm not happy about the counterfeiting of labels now.
I stopped purchasing from eBay a year ago and have no regrets. I buy from local dealers, coin shows, and sometimes yard sells.
WoW! You find coins at yard sales? All we seem to have here is broken furniture, old clothes and toys galore!
One thing that i noticed was odd are the eagle details, especially the upper left wing, quite suspicious. The (CC) location is also wrong and some lettering details,What coins are you looking for?I have no problems on the bay.
No coins at yard sales but i do nice picking for roadside dumps.Found a $200 fishing combo, had a lot of salt residue so the previous person didn't do proper cleaning.Got it all off, took apart the reel and did a nice cleaning, good as new!!still one of my best. You won't believe what people just put to the curb and if your lucky it'll be you who finds treasure.
OP seems to spend quite a lot of time and effort scouring eBay for bad examples. Seems a little ironic for someone with "realmoney" in his username, but maybe he's got a plan.
You'd be surprised at just what the stores throw away ( clothes, handbags, perfumes and then there's the food items. I saw a show on it. It might sound gross but if your willing to dig a little then the rewards will come.
Never bought a coin at a yard sale but I’ve bought a couple from someone that got them there. A friend knew I bought coins. Showed me 2 nice bust halves he got at a yard sale. I said how much he said a hundred bucks for both. Of course I bought them. A 1826 in xf and an 1832 in vf 30. Both were common Overton varieties but original unmolested surfaces. Sold both right away
I’m just to scared to buy anything on line. I call myself silly. I don’t want to buy a coin to prove it. Plus. If you follow Jack d.’s threads. You would be able to do the legs work. He tells you how to where to and shows you.
One way to get some knowledge of fakes is to look on Alibaba.com or Temu.com and search coins for sale. A $1.50 coin for an 1888 Morgan dollar can not be real and they know it. Many "legitimate " dealers in China label it as a replica, or puts it as "decoration" They are by no way ignorant about them. Jim
I wouldn’t touch that one with a 10 foot pole looks artificially aged, way to many Chinese fake out there to be sure it’s the real McCoy.
