So I was going through an old bank bag that's been sealed since 1985, and found this oddity. Found nothing on the Internet over many searches.

It appears to be genuinely stamped not cast under 60x magnification; I can't see anything wrong on the surface that is usually very apparent on forgeries, counterfeits, etc.

This 1960 cent is the size of a nickel, and a little thinner than a regular 1960 LHC. It couldn't be struck on a nickel planchet, since it feels and sounds like copper, plus the image wouldn't fit the planchet.

    Opinions on what this is?

Likely hammered between two pieces of leather. Psd

Why? Was that a common way to make 4 cents, and use in a vending machine?

Pretty intriguing. If it was hammered even using soft materials, I would expect the details to be a lot flatter.

Does it weigh the same as a regular penny?

The leather conforms to the surfaces of the coin and then the hammer blows are distributed evenly to the entire surface instead of just flattening the high points.
