I’m moving and recently came acrossed a box of things my grandmother left me after she passed. There was a huge bag of coins that I had never looked at until today.

I found this Indian Head Penny but thought it was so strange that front and back were both the same. I realized that there is a little notch that connects the two. They are both about half the size of a regular penny.

One is from 1879 and the other from 1881. Both backs are nonexistent.

Has anyone ever seen this before? Could someone possibly have done this by themselves?

Looks like they were turned into buttons by someone.

That's too bad. Yes they were ground off and turned into buttons.
$15 in coins are now only worth sentimental value.

They may also have been used by a Magician. Magicians often take coins and pair them by grinding away the backs so that they can perform certain coin tricks.

Hopefully the coins had damage on the reverses before they were mutilated this way. We can always hope that no major value was lost! ;)
