Bought a $260 bag of halves from the coin machine of my new bank and was told very nicely that I would have to accept whatever amount of coins were in it. I agreed since my experience is that bank coin machines tend to be pretty accurate, and the prospect of finding silver outweighs any concerns I have about getting short changed. Got to my car with the bag and was disappointed I did not see any silvers, but did see a lot of quarters. Got home and went through the bag coin by coin. The half dollar count was exactly $260 as advertised. I found only 1 silver coin, a 1957-D quarter! Also found my first 1987-D Kennedy and 2 other NIFCs. But the oddest part of it all was that I got an extra $17.75 in bonus quarters! Woo hoo!

That's why I have never trusted these machines. At one time, I used them for the sake of expedience, but I always counted the coins twice before dumping them into the machine. And, when the count was wrong (usually in the neighborhood of 10-11%), I insisted that the credit union credit my account accordingly.

How did that go over? Did they end up giving you the credit?
