I found this wierd coin that I assume to be like Chinese or Japanese of some sorts. I havn't been able to find it online because its hard to explain. I have some pics, to show both sides even though they are the same, hopefully someone can help.
Welcome aboard,Rawien. It looks like it comes from Cambodia,Thailand or Laos, but it is a token of some sort, not a coin. Aidan.
What's it made of? Can you show the other side? I can't get a good look at it, but it doesn't look like any Thai coin I've seen, but I could also be wrong. It also doesn't look like Vietnamese writing, so I would say look in Krause for Laos, Cambodia, or even Bhutan, but I'm 99% sure it's from that general location of the globe.
A refrigerator magnet will verify which one it is pretty quickly. Also, without a scale steel would roughly match other coins of the same diameter, but aluminum would be noticeably lighter.
While I'm no expert, I'm going to say that the writing looks like the couple of coins I have from Bhutan, but I'd need a clearer picture. have you looked at the "instant identifier" section over at www.worldcoingallery.com ? Don's website has helped me with a few unidentified coins in the past.
Chris, the style of the piece looks like a telephone token of some sort.I don't think it is from Bhutan.Rawien has told us that it is the same on both sides. Aidan.
Brad, none of the Burmese coins look like that.I still reckon that it is a phone token, but denominated in so many Pyas. Aidan.
I take that back, I looked again more carefully and think its in Lao (a bit hard to see anything). I did not say I thought it was a coin.
I missed the part about it being the same. I was too busy trying to read the "coin". If it is the same on both sides, then it almost certainly isn't a coin at all and as Aidan said, it is possibly a telephone token. Acanthite is probably closer than we ever will be, but I would certainly agree that it is from one of the Southeast Asian countries. Now if only I wasn't illiterate in hundreds of languages......
