Not sure about this what do you guys think, was thinkn a dryer coin? Weak strike on of on reverse and there is a odd dip on the reverse below the memorial, the raised area near the rim on Obverse is what mainly caught my eye.
Not a dryer coin. Notice the slight extra rim at the east. Misaligned strike is my best answer. And struck thru a bit of grease on the reverse.
Looks like it might be a plating issue. BTW: It's not a filled die on the rev. On the obverse, immediately opposite this area is Lincoln's shoulder, which requires a lot of metal to flow and fill it. If the strike is a little weak, you'll see weak letters in STATES OF.
On Error-Ref. com in Part IV. Die Errors: under the heading of Die Deterioration/ deformation errors: it lists "Ridge Rings" on Copper plated Zinc cent. It has no entrys to show. I think that this is what they are refering to, I have seen a few of these myself but none that big. Interesting to note the VDB on the shoulder is missing it's bottom, I would say Late Die Stage for sure.
Is it just me or is there a bit or Machine Doubleling on the I on LIBERTY And something going on with his hair in the front above the forehead, and maybe a bit on the reverse with the columns?
