Well to be honest I'm lost for words. It's blackish looking and appears to be in the metal naturally. It don't try to rub off at all or smear. Also there are 4 areas where the surfaces are raised due to foreign objects under top layer. 2 on obverse and 2 on reverse and the 2 on the obverse do not line up with the 2 on the reverse. My guess is maybe it's 4 really small ball bearings or something similar. Any information that anybody could give me about this coin would be greatly appreciated. If anybody needs better pictures or anything please let me know. Thanks to all that helped in advance.
There's no mint mark because it was minted in Philadelphia as far as for the appearance of the coin it looks like to me it's environmental damage.
All you see was caused by heat damage... Not a mint error. No ball bearings. The clad layer raised up from the copper core due to the extreme heat. I/We have seen this issue many times before.
Thanks for the info guys. I wondered if it may have been in a fire just needed to hear somebody else say it. To Handyman yes I knew why it didn't have a mint mark. Quarter's minted in Philadelphia from 1932 thru 1979 did not have mint marks. To Paddyman98 autocorrect slipped Quartet in when I wasn't paying attention lol it's early To Heavymetal I like mine medium thanks lol Once again thanks for y'alls time and have a good day.
