    Howdy fellow coin peeps, :thumb:

I acquired an English Medal and I can't figure out what it is. :hatch:

The only reason I got it was because I like it and I had already bought one item from the seller and with taking combined shipping into consideration, I got it really cheap.

If anyone knows what this is, please fill me in and the date should be crucial to what the medal is about (October 25, 1760).

    Ribbit :)

George II died on Oct. 25, 1760. That medal is of George III - kind of a welcome to the new king.

Sorta like a Coronation Medal, since he would have become king upon the death of his father?

Not quite, he wasn't crowned until Sept. 22, 1761. They probably have a name for it, just don;t know what it is off the top of my head. Like I said, a welcome to the new king, an acknowledgement if you will.

They went a year without a bonafide King? Is that the official mourning period? :D

Ps: I'm buying a Krause shortly (1601-1800). I'm starting to get into world coins so it's next on my list of books to get. :thumb:

    Kind of like:
"The king is dead. Long live the king."
