hi, all. i'm primarily a coin collector -- mostly ancients, with a decent modern american and world segment -- but i collect some currency on the side. i'm a newb, though, to currency collecting. a friend's family has a small collection of both coins and currency and is considering selling off some or all of the lot. i was asked for advice, but not being expert, i thought i'd check with everyone at cointalk. 1. can you guys recommend a few good internet and print resources for obsolete currency, and maybe modern (small) notes as well? 2. although i'm familiar with the pros/cons of slabbing coins, i'm not familiar with currency grading. how rare does a note need to be for you to see a $ return? ie, should they bother getting the notes bagged and graded? your input is really appreciated. i know i'm being vague -- i haven't seen the collection -- so general answers work just fine. and btw, i hope this isn't too much of a repost. thanks, and happy new year. v.
Haxby's Books on Obsoletes is the best out there! It is expensive to get them..$750-$900.00. The second best books on Obsoletes is Q. David Bowers book. DO a google search for Obsolete notes for Sale/Dealers and you will have enough to keep you busy for a while. For Small size Notes...Schwartz/Lindquist 8th edition. Buy the books before the notes!
