Hello everyone, I made it this morning to the 2022 NYINC I saw @Terence Cheesman once again. I only stayed for 2 hours because of another event I had to attend just in case he wondered where I disappeared As always there were a lot of great Ancient and World coins. I wasn't really looking for many coins in particular except for a one Foreign coin that I finally acquired at a great price.. $100.00 1877 - Dominican Republic 1Centavo - MS63 Also picked up.. 1948 - Cuba 20 Centavos 1900 - 1 Peseta - Silver 1936 10C & 1951 5 Centimos 1893 - Argentina 2 Centavos
The only Ancient coin I purchased was.. 40-4 BC - Judea - AE Prutah @Deacon Ray It's common but you'll like it Misc Pic I also ran into an old acquaintance who is a coin collector I met at the 2020 NYINC named Matt. He worked at one of the companies in my commercial building. I found out he moved to Florida and works with NGC doing data entry. It's cool to have a connection with NGC! He helped me to get a NGC 35th anniversary Lanyard And the last item was this Spink 2022 Book.. Coins Of England & The United Kingdom I saw the exact Decimal coin on the cover slabbed by NGC PF70 The seller wanted $1300.00 for it (No.. I didn't get it)
Looks like you had a great experience/ congrats on your new acquisitions I will participate in the auctions online. Picked up one at Triton XXV. John
Wow Paddyman you only picked up a few? LoL I too like the Cuban 20 , I had one in 63 but like a fool let it go in a trade.
Always nice to get out and do something you enjoy. Did everyone "mask up?" With this newest threat, I would be surprised if they didn't.
It was required to mask up. Proof of vaccination was also needed to enter the show.. The thing that bothered me the most were a few annoying people who got all paranoid when you stood to close to them. Some people overreact and make others feel uncomfortable. Really unnecessary! If you think you might get sick then you shouldn't be participating in a place where there are many people.. Sheesh we are Vaccinated! Take a chill pill! I sat at one dealers table for half and hour and I welcomed at least 2 guys who sat next to me! I don't ever want to make anyone feel awkward.
The only CT'er I recognized was @Terence Cheesman . I purchased a few inexpensive world coins, here are my two favorites. This is smaller and thinner than a dime. Holy Roman Empire, Kingdom of Hungary, Ferdinand I (1526-1564 AD) Silver denar (or denarius), struck 1545, with clear date. Obverse is Ferdinand's coat of arms, reverse is Mary and the Baby Jesus. K-B is Körmöcbánya (Kremnica in Slovakia). The modern town only has 5300 residents but is home to the oldest still-operating mint – it opened 17 November 1328; 693 years ago! The building where this coin was probably struck is currently the gift store. The mint has expanded and recently struck 175 million Sri Lankan 10 Rupee coins. Malaysia; native coins of Terengganu sultanate; Sultan's name not given. Unknown year somewhere perhaps between 1835 – 1925? 20mm diameter. Arabic (or Jawi) inscription Kali Malik Al Adil (= The reign of the just ruler) كالي مالك العادل These are cast from tin. If you can't see what is on the reverse the answer is nothing. Reverses are always blank. I have never seen these offered for sale in the US, but at NYINC a dealer had a small bag of them.
Yes, I did enjoy it! I wrote about my experience at some length in the NYINC thread in the Ancients Forum.
Seeing the Argentina 2 Centavo coin reminded me of two I bought from coin dealer boxes in the 1960's: Argentina 2 Centavos 1891 Bronze, 30 mm, 9.64 gm This one has some kind of damage on the obverse: Argentina 2 Centavos 1889 Bronze, 30 mm, 9.78 gm
