https://www.nyinc.info/events.php I’m looking to go to the NY international coin show that is quickly approaching, but I’ve never been to a show and well the website isn’t like “if you’ve never been to a show do this”. Don’t know if this is a silly ask, but - can anyone provide insight on how to approach one of these? Looking to walk around freely maybe buy a coin from someone just sitting at a table… Thanks all.
NYINC is a bit different than most shows. It's strictly world and ancient coins. No sea of slabbed Morgan dollars to wade through. The atmosphere at NYINC in particular can be a little highfalutin but don't be intimidated. Just soak it all in. If time allows, I suggest sitting in on one of the major auction sessions. It's quite an experience! Before writing this post, I googled "coin show etiquette" and found a number of useful articles. Give it a try. Good reads. My single best piece of advice is to keep your ears open to the table-talk all around you. You'll learn as much in a day as in a month of reading forum threads. Above all, have fun!
