I am planning to go to Chicago. Are there certain places to visit reguarding coinage and currency; wheather it be museum type or stores. I know there is a BEP, but cannot find a phone number for them (simple searches). And when in Cleveland they were going to open for tours Jan 06 in their "Money Museum", Iwas there in Dec 05.
In fact this would be a great adder to this site. If everyone could contribute to suggestions to visit in a certain areas of the country/world. Have a searchable or clickable map. And then visitors could rate the attraction. Maybe getting ahead of myself.
All right lets start with Chicago. As always I look forward to the forums responses. Drew

So not one person goes anywhere in Chicago. I have a visit to the www.Chicagofed.org , click about the FED folder on top and will visit the Money Museum there. Next is to look up some dealers.

I live in Chicagoland, but I don't know of any numismatic museum-type places in the area (I've only lived here a year and a half).

Where are you going to be? I live in the far west suburbs and can recommend a shop or two out my way, plus there are a number of coin dealers downtown (Harlan J. Berk, et al.). So, I guess, where are you planning to be in CHicago? Once we know that then we can be more helpful.

Well Chicago is a great City and all, it lacks a prime site for a numismatic museum of any type.
What type of numismatics would you be interested in visiting?
I know that the University of Chicago's Oriental Museum has a Few ancient coins (Nothing special, maybe 20 total, mostly ancient stone carvings...)
As Chris aka The_Cave_Troll mentioned Harlan J. Berk is probably the closest thing Chicago has to a museum...I've never been inside the place, but from what I hear it sounds like a pretty interesting place to visit. I too live about 25-30 miles west of Chicago in the suburbs.
