Is the Numismatic News publication worth getting? I got a card in the mail for a subscription and I don't know if it's worth subscribing to.

It really depends on what you like in a publication. Personally I subscribe to CoinWorld, Coins, and Coinage. I do pick up a copy of some others on occasion, but tough to find the time to read everything.

When I had time to read I always enjoyed Coin World and Numi News, and I like Coins and Coinage magazines as they have good articles.
I also like The Numismatist, the ANA publication.

Last time I was heavily into collecting I recieved Coin World and Numis News, I like them both, I haven't seen a Numis News lately though but I am sure it's still a good publication. I do recieve Coin World and like it. Like the others here I like Coins and Coin Age mags too. I just joined the ANA and look foward to getting the Numismatist.

I worked for Coin World, briefly, at the turn of the century. I consider it the more professional of the two newspapers. It is certainly larger! CW runs about 100 pages and it goes to about 100,000 readers. Numismatic News is about 1/2 to 1/3 the size with only 1/2 to 1/3 the readers. Most collectors apparently feel that Coin World delivers a better value.

That said, when I started in the hobby about 1992-93, I looked at both and chose Numismatic News. Its smaller size and people-to-people content made it much easier to understand. Also, for those in the hobby for whom the hobby is people, Numismatic News helps you keep track of your friends. NN lets collectors have one free classified ad per issue. (I think they still do that.) CW does not. So, if you want to see if you can make an income (or even a living) at buying and selling, you can try a bit of it via NN.

I think I will stick with Coinage magazine. I like it better than Coins or was that Coin World?

I have found that if you ask, most periodicals will send you a sample copy. Holding and reading an example of the real thing is the best way I have found to decide whether a publication is worth its subscription price to me.

With my interests in World coins in general and Japanese milled coins in particular, a publication with nearly total emphasis on U.S. coinage is very low on my "buy the book" list. :p
