In NN today i read an article about the washington quarter release... in the article near the end, it mentions that director Moy instructed the Artist Infusion Program to look at more Allegorical designs .... do you agree or disagree that the mint should use allegorical designs on its coinage
when i read the refference Moy made to this, i dropped the maggazine. .. im not sure his true intent on the comment - meaning, im not sure if he meant he wants to look into redesigning the whole line of US coins (which is MY hope!!!) or something less fantastic liek just the next quarter or somthign else less focused
It would be great to return to allegorical designs on circulation coinage. Images of presidents and other people are better suited to commemorative coins.
My faveriote US coin design is the flowing hair dollar....most of the modern ones are just plain ugly, excluding the barber half.
I must admit.. i am very surprised how the survey is going .. i thought i was in the minority when it came to how i felt about the designs on our coinage. I really did not think the survey would be this lopsided. As of today, it stands at 86% to 14% in favor of the alegorical designs ... Maybe we could forward this thread to Director Moy lol
I like the current presidential designs, but I think it's time to move on. Not counting the dollars, every coin design now in use was started before I was born (well unless you count the subtypes of Washington quarters and Jefferson nickels... but I mean an actual major type change)! Time for a change... would get more people excited about modern coinage.
Regardless of any member's thoughts, a new coin design found in circulation is A LOT of fun. One of my office colleagues received a new Washington Dollar in change the other day. We passed it around the office for everyone to see. Quite a few of us also collect State Quarters from circulation, so I am usually the long time collector who announces the news of a new coin release. American coin designs change very s-l-o-w-l-y. I believe the Mint is moving forward and making headway for changes toward design revision. Nonetheless, it will take years and years. Mark Coral Springs, FL
