I was thinking maybe we should have a thread going for people to share what they got for Christmas- the numismatic related gifts only of course. If someone else already started a thread like this, and I missed it, just let me know. I got: a 2006 proof silver eagle, a Sac$ folder, with 7 BU's to go in it, The book " The Moneybucks Handbook - For Minting Errors & Die Varieties" signed by the author Ray Balsbaugh. Errors and varieties aren't actually something I'm into, but maybe I'll start learning about it, and enjoying it. And I also got a metal detector. I always ask for old coins, like morgans etc. and never get them. But none the less, I was blown away by the generosity of my family this year. What did you guys get? Merry Christmas!
3 SLQs from my dad. THEN, the best one of all, JUST happened. One of my friends from high school came over to have Christmas dinner with us. He gave my dad a novelty mug and he gave me his grandad's coin collection saying, "it's a bunch of foreign coins." So, I opened up the case. they were all loosely packed in and started going through them. Found 5 beat up corroded large cents. Fair to AG at best. More like poor here. And the best of all. a FUGIO CENT!!!!!!!!!! yup, she was in with a bunch of darksiders. :kewl: Yeah, the obverse is pretty well worn, heavy contact marks, two nicks, 1 huge corrosion poch mark on the obverse. The reverse gave it away to me. "WE ARE ONE" and the chain linked. :thumb: Super stoked! I was about to ask my dealer for one. HA! :kewl: :goofer:
Well I went to the store and got a South Dakota quarter in change. It's the first and only S. Dak I have. It has a new home in my album, which wraps up the year 2006. Merry Christmas.
Wife bought me an American Eagle Gold Proof One-Quarter Ounce Single Coin. :thumb: Of course the mint has not shipped it yet but I can wait and I will be excited when it arrives. Hope everyone received something nice...
My daughter got me a 2007 hard bound Red Book. And my wife got me this. I had been looking for a 42 D over horizontal D for awhile now, So I had a Great Christmas!
My Wife Bought Me A Stereo Microscope, Now I Have To Go And Buy A Camera She Said With My Eyes A MICORSCOPE Would Be Better She Is Always Right. You guys will just have to wait on some pictures for a few more weeks The picture of a camera on the ice box did not work but it' a great gift and I am happy.. Bruce"the Frank Group"
My two daughters each bought me a coin. From my oldest daughter a PCGS 1886 MS 63 DMPL Morgan Dollar. From my youngest daughter, A PCGS 1883-0/0 MS 63 Vam 4,( attributed on the holder) Morgan dollar. It was quite the surprise.
From my mom I got the book "United States Coinage: A Study by Type" (not sure how well known it is. It's a nice coffee table book with excellent pictures. I gave my two cousins (both boys, 14 and 18) each a Mexican 2-peso gold coin, and a stack of 100 $1 bills with a bank band around it. They seemed much more impressed by the currency than by the gold. I also gave their parents each a 2006 1/10oz unc gold eagle. What gifts did you guys give?
You can really see how unkind time, the environment, and this storage container was mean to this Fugio. Yes, the first photo is the obverse. Here's the reverse. It's slightly better. I really think this coin needs to be preserved. There is some BAD verdigris on it. Thoughts? I'm thinking clean and send to ANACS for encapsulation.
Two 2007 red books. One for paper money and one for coins. 3 ASE's one for each book. And a partridge in a pear tree...Not really.
My brother gave me a $100 bill. I also gave him a $100 bill. It's sort of our inside joke to each other...
I found my Whitman album of Jefferson Nickels 1938-1964, the only one I've ever been able to complete, upstairs in the attic last night so I feel like that's a Christmas present! The 1950-D is in nice shape but the other nickels look like they largely came from change, including the War Nickels so perhaps some upgrading is on the agenda for 2007. I am going to try to give myself the gift of some time this week, while I am on vacation from work, to get into my World Coins and try to organize them. Some of the 2x2s still have a ten year old's handwriting on them--mine! I think I'll keep it that way, too. Thalia Elizabeth got a very generous Christmas present of a 2000 Brittania and two UK Half Pennies from a member here -- thanks!-- and a Chinese Panda one ounce silver bullion coin from her brother (with some help from Dad). I bought her the Canada 25 cent Queen Elizabeth 80th Birthday coin that we've discussed on another thread. The 1900 Victoria Penny and the 1750 Russian Empress Elizabeth 1/2 kopeck will be "shared" coins. I should also mention that we gave some numismatic gifts as well, to young collectors in the area. Hey, why don't coin stores have After Christmas Sales?
Well I made a decision today---and that is that I need to get rid of alot of my extras and not work on some many sets at one time....I think I'm going to limit myself to about 5 sets (most of them only need one or two to complete) and then maybe trade or sell off the rest to complete other collections. The main reason being that today I was looking through some of my coins and I have alot that I've gotten in trades or when I've bought "lots" of coins at auctions or such and that just really don't fit into my collection....some of them are nice but they just don't "ring my bell"! Speedy
I got my first gold coin for Christmas. My Mom and Dad got me a 1/4 ounce proof 2006 Gold Eagle. I also got a 2007 Redbook. Way cool.
