Complete Set of United States Gold Coins: An Analysis of Auction Records by David W. Akers. Volumes I-VI (Gold Dollars through Double Eagles). A truly superb date-by-date evaluation of the entirety of United States circulation gold issues. Though their titles may suggest a mere condition census and/or price analysis, these books are far more. Of particular value is Akers' “Comment” section, where he discusses various characteristics for each date, gleaned from his extraordinary research and experience. These comments are composed of statements concerning various combinations of the following: rarity in all of its variations (conditional, relative, marketplace, etc.), strike characteristics, major varieties and more. The boards display moderate shelfwear/scuffing but the books are internally clean and tightly bound. Despite signs of handling, they are not at all unattractive and will well serve your reference needs. Scarce, especially as a complete set, and always in demand. - $225 The Garrett Collection.
