Now a bit of History LOL

Massinissa (c. 240 or 238 BC - c. 148 BC) was the first King of Numidia, an ancient North African nation of Berber tribes, which he united, and is most famous for his role as a Roman ally in the Battle of Zama
He originaly fought on the side of Carthage against Rome at the age of seventeen, during the 2nd Punic war he led an army of Numidian troops and Carthaginian auxiliaries against Syphax's army (a king of the ancient Libyan tribe Masaesyli of western Numidia) and won a decisive victory.

After his victory over Syphax he went to Spain serving under Hasdrubal Barca (Brother of Hannibal he was involved in the Carthaginian victories of Castulo and Ilorca but decided to change sides after the Carthiginians lost to Scripo Africanus at the battle of Ilipa

In the later battle of Zarma he commanded some 6000 Numidian plus 3000 Roman cavelry and Greatly helping Scripo to defeat Hannibals army. For his services he received the kingdom of Syphax, and became king of Numidia

He lived into his 90s and was still apparently leading his troops into battle, his actions against Carthage are part of the resons for the 3rd Punic war.

Apparently these are more common than I thought? Three on cointalk alone, awesome!

How much did you two pay for them? And did you know what it was when you bought it?

I paid $25 and bought it unattributed in a lot of 3rd c. barbarous imitations.

Was that $25 for the lot? how big was the lot?

I can't say what these would go for. I got mine in a lot of 20 unatributed ancients that a dealer friend sold to me sight unseen (he has no interest in ancients and these came with a large lot he bought) for just $80. There were some really nice coins in the lot, even several silver.

It was $25 a coin, which is more than I usually like to pay. But these were some top-notch imitations. Very stylized designs.

Definitely. EF ones on coinarchives seemed to go for $150 or so.

Let me know if your dealer gets anymore of those lots in. :D

Very interesting historical background. I didn't know the Romans had local allies in their 3 wars against Carthago. Ínteresting.
