i just went through a fairly large jar of coins for fun to pull out the lewis & clark/ocean view/buffalo nickels and found 11 lewis & clark, 3 buffulo, and 1 ocean view? were the lewis & clark ones minted more than the buffalo/ocean view? or did i just happen to have more lewis & clarks heh
since the lewis and clarke came before the buffalo/ocean, it would seem you mix is just uneven. I think there were alot more of the buffalo nickles minted then any other, but i am not sure of the exact figure, i will let someone else fill in that blank.
what are you calling Lewis and clark nickels? Peace nickels? Keel boat nickels? The '04 nickels had more time to get into the jar.
production report peace medal 733,440,000 keelboat 711,570,000 am. bison 936,000,000 ovean view 544,800,000 first month report only. so there were a lot of nickels around. that is why the banks no need to hurry disposing new nickels. it is enough for general circulation. who cares you are a coin collector.
Coin collectors and hoarders alike are the main reason these nickels are not often found in circulation. Give it time. When people realized they've got the same $2 roll everyone else has and 5 years later its still worth $2, you see more of them.
