    Hmmm, I would bet you a mountain dew a medieval reenactment coin engraver could discover ten times as much information on how the ancients coined than all of the Xray whatever. My understanding of byzantine schyphate coinage was completely changed after a conversation with such a man. He trialed dozens of way to produce them, and came up with an accurately reproduction of their coinage, including all known errors produced.

    Sometimes working with your hands is a lot more informational than theorizing. Their ideas on porosity may or may not be true, since find location can affect coin porosity more than anything else. Of course, a real expert like some here could NEVER be consulted, since to the high and mighty archeologists we are the enemy. :(
