An interesting penny. The owner said, "Found in grandpa's collection." REV: http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/r...coln Cent REV_zpslywky5u9.jpg.html?sort=4&o=2 OBV: http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/r...coln Cent OBV_zpsliak2rlj.jpg.html?sort=4&o=3
Considering the wear, I would say two guesses. Either AT or it was cleaned with a chemical solvent years ago and has retoned this way. I have seen shiny BU cents tone in this manner, but not circulated coins.
Without examining it in hand, I'd lean toward AT as well. The pictures are not good, and it's practically impossible to tell if the flatness on the obv is wear or weak strike.
It almost reminds me of long ago when I was in shop class in high school someone heated a penny with a torch and quenched it. Maybe they put it on a electric stove and cooked. How do you think it was done?
There is clearly enough wear on the jaw and cheekbone to say that this is circulated. Probably low AU. Harshly cleaned and polished as well. No, its not.
Shouldn't have........if you want to be a sporting fellow in these parts you have to take a certain amount of criticism, commentary, and at times......abuse. Welcome to the club and restore those links.........
This wasn't my coin I was just asking for opinions. Looks like it was ATed. Didn't take it as criticism. Thanks for everyones response.
