I was searching the bay a little bit ago and found four of these sets of presidential dollars with some pretty nice toning. I've seen some wildly colored Sacajawea and presidential dollars, so I thought they had a chance of being natural. I'm not much of a toning guy, but I liked these and with a BIN of only $15 per set, I figured that it was a nice group of coins for the kids set. I offer $13.00 per set, and the seller accepted my offer. My son is now the owner of a four year run of nicely colored dollars. The seller thought that they were NT, but what do you say?
I kind of agree with you Doug, but it's just outside of my normal collecting. At $13, it wasn't much of a risk anyway.
Doesn't look natural to me, however it is probably packaging-related, as there appears to be a very rough correlation between color of toning and position of coins in the board.
My sentiments exactly. Besides, it's a pretty good teaching tool to give my son a run of the presidents. Here are the other two (likely AT) sets.
Whatever, y'all are all jealous of my amazing purchase! I would have thought that one of you knew what gloriously toned dollars looked like. How wrong I was. I'm kidding of course...
Trying to remember, did Polk die of cyanide poisoning and Taylor from sunburn? Watching too much CSI.....
Kirk I would say talk to Wingedliberty. He has a beautiful collection oof these toned Presidential Dollars graded thru PCGS and could give you a better answer in regards to their toning. In the end all that matter is if you like them or not, $13 is not that much of a loss if they are AT considering the going price for toners now-a-day.
