Okay, I want to put this puppy to rest, cause this guy is really bugging me. This is my 1909 VDB, and I want you guys to decide whether or not you think it is Natural Toning, or Artificial. Sorry if I am soudning like I am obsessing, but I want to just put this puppy to rest. Thanks. Here it is, and I will try to get better pics also: Phoenix
i would guess NT. The toning doesnt look 'over the top' as i can only see slight toning on the face and front breast area.
Looks fine to me !! Good lookin coin. NT Purple comes along with album storage unless it is wild crazy totally freako toning, then thats a sign someones been playin in the MS-70.
I refuse to call anything copper NT unless I've seen it in hand. Too many tricks of photograph (both intentional and inadvertant) can cause an image to look different that the actual coin.
Man, after all that you still call it very nice? Okay, this coin what had me on the fence guys was, I am not the best at distinguishing toning, can't tell what would be really real or not, but the only hting that put me on the fence was this coin had some light blue an purple in it. That was honestly the only thing. I am almost 99.9% positive this coin has not been cleaned and retoned, reason being this coin still has it's original mint luster. This coin is just stunning in hand, and I personally grade it a MS-64 R. There is a light hit under America on the reverse, and a few hits on the obverse that I think might keep it from being a 65, but I am still a nivice at grading. I thank you all for your opinions, and the help from y'all experts. I am right now at the moment considering possibly sending it in to be slabbed, not sure yet though. Thank you all that helped! This coin, IMO, has too much wear on it to be naturally tones. Look at the Cheeks of Lincoln and the ear. I coin handled that much shouldn't even be red. Ruben
Like said earlier, the coin for some eason isn't coming out right in the pics. There is no wear on the coin, and I have no idea why the cheek came out like that. This coin is hard to photograph for some reason. Maybe the new owner can get some better pics than I could. The only thing close to wear though is there is a bit of a weak strike in Lincoln's hair, but other than that, I personally grade it a solid 64 R in hand. :thumb: But yeah, I can get where you could see wear from the pics, probably just one of those coins that doesn't like it's picture taken. Thanks for your opnion though. Phoenix
New owner huh ? You're gonna get yourself in trouble selling coins you are not sure about. And it won't do your reputation as a seller much good. Just some food for thought.
What is everyone's problem lately? Please don't take me as disrespectful or rude man, but what makes you think I sold it? I traded it with someone here on cointalk, and I only traded it after I got everyone else's opinion. That person is aware of the toning, and has seen every post I have made on this coin, and still wanted it. But now I am 99.9% sure this coin is the real deal. It has beautiful luster on it, which I think would go away after 1. being circulated, and 2. If it was put on a bulb. I have experimented with modern coins and baking, and the baking that gives the coins that bluish effect is much more intense and takes away the coins luster. Even though I am a yn, I take precautions, and I always like to get other opinions on a coin. I try to educate myself. This coins toning is almost no doubt the real deal IMO. But, to clarify, I did not sell it, I traded it with someone that is a collector of Lincolns here on cointalk, and has a good bit of knowledge when it comes to Lincolns IMO. I think I should lay off posting here for awhile, atleast till after the holidays the way everyone is lately. Phoenix
