http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=3512 this article is about how liberty can get back on money without removing George, JFK, FDR, Abe, and Tom n a genius way what are your ideas on this?
it seems to me impractical but if somehow they could get it to work it would be great on a side note the mint was saying the pres dollars were pretty too
its the most stupid thing someone has written if he beleives the current designs are crap why doesnt he propose we scrap them he is cursing politicians while behaving like one
i ok with it... but the dead folks on our coins HAVE GOT TO GO! they did well for our country when they were alive! We commemorated them with putting them on our coinage! But enough is seriously enough! Let 'em go! Move on! the current designs are old, dead, and do NOTHING to show what American fine arts can actually do! These 'patch' jobs A) western nickle series B) State Quarter Series C) Presidential Dollar Series D) Proposed Theoretical rotating liberty designs..... they all speak loudly ONE thing!!! Americans WANT a change in our change. If Americans didnt embrace all the fresh new designs, that would speak very loudly we are all very happy with our stale coins. But Americans are Loving the fresh token-esk coinage being sent out into the marketplace! We have decade after decade after bloody decade of the same presidents - 100 years for the cent!!! 100 years!! We love the coins! we all collect the coins!! and we woudl continue to collect them if they discontinue them for a new designs!!! And it might help solidify all these new collectors of the State our Presidtential coin series. I am NOT a fan of the designs of most of the re-designed coins being produced... but i am very happy of any change!!! With Moy talking about it publicly - you know there are higher level talks going on in FAVOR of re-design. If there werent in favor of it, i dont think he would publicly talk about it -- unless he is trying to drum up support. And that is a possibility as well, but at least the is public talks about a high level person! Ok, will quit my tirade for the momment i need a drink!
If we truly wanted to honor these men on our coins, we wouldn't bother putting their faces on the coins. We would commemorate their works instead. Take the dead politicians off the coins. Put America back on the coins.
Something needs to be done, the penny and nickel are made at a loss. The Half has been in trouble since 2002, since the Casinos went to tokens and/or electronic card. The Dollar coins have gotten nothing but mixed acceptance. The quarters are however very successful. The Statehood program in my opinion has reinvigorated a hobby. But perhaps they are going a little overboard now. The Presidential series is a good idea, but has it's problems. I can't see people going nuts over Millard Fillmore ROFL. But Honest Abe, and some others will no doubt draw HUGE mintages. We have already seen it with low James Madison mintages. The Sac dollar? It failed..... time for it to go, the Presidents will have enough in the way without carrying this as baggage. Do the special reverse and end it at 10 years. I can foresee a time when the Mint produces nothing but medals, Bullion, Comems, proof sets, and mint sets. Maybe not soon, but in 20 years. Why? Electronic commerce is removing a lot of the need for cash and currency. It's allready taken it's toll on the Half Dollar. It's bound to have more of a toll on the others. It may be while off, but I can see a special commemorative for the half in 2013 and 2014. 50 years after the Assassination and debut of the Kennedy Half, perhaps after which the half dollar follows the, Half Cent and Big Dollar into Oblivion as one of the originally authorized denominations, to be revived occasionally as a Silver Comem denomination. Anyway, did I miss something? Liberty returned on the back of the Pres dollars.
A bunch of one year only types? What make him think those will circulate? Sure each of the state quarters is a one year only type and they circulate, but they are part of a continuing series of one year only types. Do you think they would have circulated if they had come out one every five years instead of five each year? How long did the bicentennial quarter stay in common everyday circulation? It didn't. Most of them were sucked up by the hoarders within the first couple years, and that is where they still are today. If you have to do something like that don't make it a one year only piece. Just make both designs at the same time and over a three year period phase out the president coin. The three year period lets people get used to having both types in circulation and convinces them there is nothing special about the liberty coin so is will circulate. After three years they are used to seeing both type is circulation and they probably won't notice in the fourth year that there is no new dated president coin because there are plenty of the older dated one in change. As time passes there will be more and more liberty coins and fewer president coins. A nice smooth transition that goes relatively unnoticed. And since all of the president coins have exceeded the 25 year minimum mintage requirement no politician will have to go on record calling for the removal of one of the presidents since the law does not require congressional approval. No law says that they have to be there. With the possible exception of Jefferson on the five cent piece.
I'm in favor of anything that gets the politicians off our coins. So I'm not in favor of a keeping them on at all. They need to be replaced entirely.
