I've gone and satisfied my childish wants by finally plunking down the cash for a 1909 S VDB Lincoln Cent. I've contemplated doing so in the past but never thought I'd actually go through with it. I know it's a lot of money to pay for a "penny" and my friends and relatives who don't collect coins would think me crazy if they knew, but I said "what the heck" and did it. I actually didn't expect to win this coin as it lists on numismedia in VG-8 at $930. This coin was probably the one I dreamed of owning the most as a child. It completes my Lincoln Cent set. I guess I figured I'd tell you folks first since you people are CoinTalk members and might be able to sympathize with, or at least understand, my addiction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390101736249&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It is the last cent that I need to finish my collection (1857-2008), not counting the varieties. I'm envious; nice coin!!
Congrats Gopher! That's a great coin to add to your collection, glad you finally set down the cash for one. Congrats
Sweet. I have four key Lincoln's left and that is one of them and will be the last one I get. I can imagine your feeling. Now just sit back and enjoy.
Congrats on completing the set now whats next as you know its an addiction. We all have it and you know how us addicts are NEVER get enough???
You should have come to see us at the shop Gopher. We just got a roll and are practically giving them away. Seriously though nice job. You won't regret it. Going to the Tri-Cities show next Sunday by any chance. I figure I'll be there for a while.
Whenever I breakdown and splurge on an expensive coin I always say "that's the last one; my collection is complete". And that's what I'm saying now. I'm done. No more coins. Of course, that's what i said last time (but I really mean it this time).
Hiya Clembo. I haven't been by Knight's Coin in a while and need to get out there sometime and check out your inventory. No, wait, I said I'm not buying any more coins. That 1909 s vdb was my last one! But seriously, I was planning on attending the Tri-Cities show again this year as I have the past 2 years but, unfortunately, it's looking like I might have to miss this one (prior commitments).
You live in Hong Kong? :loud: ConGrats gopher!~and having all but given up on ever "Finding" one of those I must accept the fact I keep staring at that glaring hole amongst my own stash....until I just acquire one by active means.:headbang: SO I Hope you enjoy the transition from "Hole" to "Whole" :thumb:
Maybe next year or I'll see you at the shop. If you're looking for anything PM me and I'll check before you come out. I missed last year's show due to lack of money.
True. But the thing is, I'm still going to have an empty "hole" in my album because that coin I bought is encapsulated and there's no way I'm ever going to be able to squeeze it into that tiny slot of my Whitman Folder. And while my collection could be said to now be "whole", it can also be said that today's transaction has left a "hole" in my bank account. ...oh well, what did that other fellow say? "It's only money"?
I will get one of those. I promise you. I will wait till my wife is out of town and when she comes back will say, "I thought you said it was OK?"
congrats on your new coin. your right, people that dont understand coin collecting would think your nuts!!!!! I have the 1909, and just paid $8.00 for the 1909 vdb, my wife thought I was nuts paying $8.00 for a penny!!! lol--- just wait till i pay $1.000 for one. again great for you--BILL
