Just received an email from the Paris mint. They have reconfigured a commemorative medal and coin in order to raise funds for the reconstruction. Here is the silver coin. https://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/fr/bo..._medium=email&utm_campaign=Emailing_ndp_mai19 And here is the small medal. It is 8 Euro of which 6 Euro goes to the reconstruction. I might pick up a few of these just to show my support. https://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/fr/bo..._medium=email&utm_campaign=Emailing_ndp_mai19
Not to be a hater, but... the design does nothing for me personally. I wish them all the best in raising the funds... sounds like an awful lot has been donated/promised already!
I like the design of the medal better than the coin. I especially like how one of the famous stained glass windows is portrayed.
BTDT. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/hi...ing-out-of-control.337131/page-2#post-3469369 (that one and the following post) Note that only the small version of the medal can be had soon. The large medal and the collector coin will come some time in May. Christian
While the fire at Notre Dame was such a tragedy, I would much rather have the bronze medal designed by Jacques Wiener. (Not mine) Chris
Very nice too, but the "bottoms" are not very "balanced". I actually like the window rose of that new medal. Will get the small Cu-Ni version from a friend ... Christian
Both the coin and the medal can now be ordered in three versions: €10 silver (Ag 900, 37mm, price 65 euro) €50 gold (1/4 oz, price 550 euro) €200 gold (1 oz, price 2,200 euro) Medal: Copper-nickel, 34 mm (8 euro) Florentine Bronze 100 mm (199 euro) (brass-ish appearance) Monetary Bronze 100 mm (199 euro) (copper-ish appearance) The Florentine Bronze version is apparently sold out ... Have not seen any barfing cows so far, but those gargoyles all look different. Maybe they could have picked a nice looking demon instead ... ah, maybe not. Christian
Well, gargoyles were meant to be ugly. And other carvings of that ilk are referred to as "grotesques". So that's historically accurate, and I think it's neat. But ... yeah. You're right. It does look like it's barfing. LOL I might buy one of these silver pieces, though I have sort of wanted one of the small 5-euro 2013 gold pieces for a while.
