Found this on the ground at the grocery store. The middle is sticking up and it only weighs 2 grams. Is it worth anything?
The one thing you can be certain of is, it's a physical impossibility to do this at the Mint. It takes two dies to strike a coin, and dies are not flat (they're conical) until they're hubbed with the actual coin pattern. So there's nothing even in the building at the Mint capable of creating a completely flat-sided coin. Therefore, whether someone ground off the obverse side or not (sometimes all we can do is guess), whatever happened to it was after it left government possession.
