I have problems with German reading - is tere a place where I could find the name of the cities beside the inscription on the notes? Thanks in advanced, TQ
I love the old German notes as well..it is my bet that Daggarjon or De Orc will be able to help you out some. There are some other members here that have some great Notegeld..I just can't remember who they are! Post some images please... Rickieb
My favourite notgeld is from Paderborn, actually I have an original set with the wrapper - this is why I bought the set: It is the magical ducat defecating donkey
Ok this a tough question to answer i have the book... "a guide & checklist world notgeld 1914 - 1947 and other local issue emergency money" its chock full of THOUSANDS of notgeld from what seems like every country that issued them. It lists countries, cities ect... it lists rarity, types ect... the only things it doesnt list is a price or value. But if you look at the rarity scale, you can get an idea of value. It an awsome book, but a little difficult to read lol and if you cant read the notgeld, its almost impossible to look up the note... at least with me it was
I have a book as well but id dont list them all with pics LOL also have about another hundred to scan and sort including Austrian. Here is one of my favs from Wittenburg 1922 :smile Post pics of what you have and we will be happy to try and help :hail:
Well I have over a thousand of these in the SDB. I was thinking about pulling them out for a bit and organizing them but not sure how to do it with a set that takes over 140,000 of them to complete  Mine are pretty much all CU and seem to be the smaller denoms. Are the larger denoms from the hyperinflation years worth more or less? Thanks
I will skip the massage, but here goes . . . German notgeld (the term literally means "emergency money") is divided into seven (or eight if you include post-WWII notes) categories. These are: 1) 1914 - just as they sound, notes issued in 1914 as substitutes for coinage that disappeared because of WWI. Issued in denominations up to 5 mark by municipalities and businesses. 2) Verkehrausgeben - Circulating issues from 1916-21 issued in denominations of less than 1 mark 3) 1918-20 - Circulating issues issued in denominations of 1 mark and higher 4) Serienscheine - Series notes issued 1920-21 in small denominations. These are the most common type of notgeld. These are the typical, colorful notes issued in series by municipalities and organizations for collectors. Most of these notes were not issued for circulation as their value was so small they would not have been useful for commerce. 5) 1922 - Larger denomination notes from 100-100,000 marks issued by local governments, state (lander) governments and companies as a result of the mild inflation of 1922. 6) 1923 - Hyperinflation notes issued by local governments and businesses during the hyperinflation of 1923. 7) Wertbestandiges Geld - notes issued in October-November 1923 at the start of the currency reform. The value of these notes was pegged to a commodity or the US dollar. All of the useful catalogs are in German. They are well illustrated and most people can make sense of them with the help of a German dictionary. The German catalogs are divided according to the categories found above.
