Just won this 1900B Trade Dollar last night in the Heritage auction. I've wanted one of these for quite a while, and am thinking of starting an NGC set (in the range of $100 -$200 each).

    Awesome !

I've recently just bought my first one, its a 1902 B chop marked. They are great coins.. Although I can't understand why you would be collecting NGC ones ? I love a raw coin !

Trade dollars are/were heavily counterfeited. I wouldn't buy an uncertified one.

I know, but buying from a trusted dealer should be fine shouldn't it ?

How do even companies like NGC guarantee their authenticity when compared to some good fakes out there and even contemporaries which have the same weight but with a lesser silver content ?

This is one of the reasons I only have a chop marked one to date though.

If the experts cant tell then that is good enough. I would hope the copiers are not ahead yet
