This ragged edge clip was from a Heritage error coin sale a couple weeks ago. Errors like this on silver dollars are quite rare.
Like for gold coins, errors on larger silver coins were frowned upon at the US Mint, particularly if the coins were, or even appeared to be underweight . . . Minor coins doubtless received much less attention.
Since I am not an error collector, I really like the rest of the coin away from the edges. It appears to be very well struck and beautifully preserved. And yes, errors like this on large coins, like a silver dollar are unusual. The mint usually flagged them before they got out the door.
