I recently purchased an 1878 vam 44 on ebay. The seller stated that he has a 7 day return policy. I have emailed him 4 times since wednesday, and I even called his home phone and left a number (roughly 24 hours ago). I'd simply like to return the coin, but I have had no contact from him. I have a feeling he is quite busy. I'm wondering if I file a complaint with paypal, will they even do anything since I have received the item? Also, if you were me would wait any longer for a response, or would you proceed with filing a complaint? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like he's just ignoring you, and then in a few days he'll pretend he didn't get your emails or phone message, and he'll say you missed the 7 days to return it. But... maybe he's had a death in the family and had to leave the country for a week or something, you never know, if he's been actively buying and selling on ebay in the past week, then you can guess he's just ignoring you, but if he hasnt had any activity, maybe he really is that busy? Thats a tough one, because you don't want to end up looking like a jerk, but you can see the inevitable 'Sorry, you should have contacted me within 7 days, I would have refunded your money, but you waited too long.'
Send all requests through ebay and contact paypal (They will contact him) so he knows you have proof. De Orc :kewl:
I am worried about just what you described. The item was quite pricy, and it is worth much less than I paid. (it was listed as cleaned, but it is FAR FAR more cleaned than I had anticipated. I think I will give him until tonight and if I don't hear back from him, I will proceed with my complaint.
I would save the emails. They are proof you ctried contacting him within the seven days. If this doesn't work out, then I would contact paypal. Hope all works out, and good luck. Phoenix
I have emailed him 4 days in a row, through the ebay menu, and had copies emailed to me. I also tried emailing him at his paypal email address.
I should add, the reason I have even hesitated to file a complaint, is he is an older gentleman, and I know he makes plenty of money, so I see no reason for him to scam me. Also, based on where he works, and his name, I believe I have met him in the past.
Contact paypal under 'item not as discribed ' requesting a refund, that should shake him up. De Orc :kewl:
By contactin paypal under the 'item significantly not as described' you get to enter comments he gets the oppertunity to respond, the complaint need not go further. De Orc :thumb:
Okay, sorry. Went back and reread that. I hope it all works out. I don't have any other advice, I don't work with ebay. Good luck Zane. Phoenix
You can always send the item back with a return receipt so he has to sign for it. You didn't say a dollar amount but that is an option to make sure you make the seven days.
Vam 44 is a tripled blossom morgan dollar. It is a 7/8 tailfeathers variety, and is frequently referred to as "The king of vams" Needless to say, they are very hard to come by. The one I purchased was in an anacs net graded holder for cleaning. I can deal with cleaning, but this coin literally flashes white from the cleaning, which I could not discern from the photos. No fault of the sellers in the way he described the coin. If anyone wants to learn more about this or other vams, Doug has posted some excellent links in the numismatic resources forum.
Heard from the seller today. As I suspected, he was simply out of town. Thankfully I didn't jump the gun on this one.
