Not Just Semantics: Amazon Coin Is Not a Coin

    Even if they had physical existance they would not be in violation of Sec 490 because they are not falsely made , forge of counterfeited, nor are they in probably be in resembance or similartude to one or five cent coins of the united states.

    On the other hand they would be illegal under sec 486 which makes it illegal to make a coin or token in likeness or similitude to a US or foreign coins, or of original design, with the intent that it pass as currency. Although if it is only of use in their own venue then it is considered a token and not as passing as currency.

    So they got the wrong law. And in any case I don't know how it would apply to virtual currency.
