    times these stars were impressed into this die.

    These stars are on the same Morgan. These have the most definition.

    I really can't count them accurately with confidence.

    It's an 1878, type II/I Obv.

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks Speedy.

    All indication is that it is an 1878, VAM 18.
    I was thinking that there might have been an extra hammer blow to these dies
    after reading the description of this vam.

    Counting the "apex" of the North tip of the Star (bottom pic).. I see 4 to 5...

    Anyone else see this?

    I suppose you could make a case for 4 - I can't see 5 though.

    Yep 5 it is...

    Lower pic apex count as follows;
    1. Lower left
    2.then to the right
    3. a wider impression on top of the second apex
    4. move south east along the 3 rd impression ~ 1/8 " and you see another impact that is equal to the height of the last impression to it's left. It rises right out of the thrid impact and is thick looking like the third strike.. :eek:
    5. the final impact crisp looking right at ya...
