Ok...... I need everyone's opinion as I will be posting these ebay soon and I don't just want to give these items away. the first is a lithograph of a soldiers record as a member of the GAR, Grand army of the republic (similar to the VFW) As you can see the gentleman served in quite a few engagements now I will say that I haven't confirmed this w/ nps.gov records for James t. rust. My father, from what I know of, wrote/published the only GAR related price guide and before he died made a big deal of these two items. the litho. I once put on ebay and got an offer of just over $100.00 but I feel it has more value. the second item is what I think to be a water color as the back is canvas, I almost failed art history in college so work with me. As you can see the hat he's wearing has GAR and appears to be cavalry. If you need measurements LMK and I can get them. So my question is what does everyone think is a fair asking price with about 10%-20% negotiating room? I'm getting a nice batch of items for sales for the holidays. If and I know the market for these items are stalled but if the estimates are not what I feel is enough I'd rather have them on my wall than sell it for $10.00-j/king. Seriously what do you think?
I would recommend haunting Heritage auctions, they have select Civil War auctions from time to time. I know if it was from an ancestor of mine I would pay moon money. But even to a sophisticated collector they have decent value.
