I have 2 coins about which i cannot find much information. The usual databases on the internet have only minimal reference. Is there an expert among you who can tell me more? Coin 1 is a 1ore dated 1893 Coin 2 is a 2ore dated 1891
According to numista these coins are relatively common for their age. Furthermore, due to circulation and wear, I really can't see these coins, in all honesty, bringing more than a few dollars each. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4137.html https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4128.html
Hi You've got two coins from the end of the union between Sweden and Norway, with Swedish king Oscar II as head of state. The Norwegian grading system is 2=AG, 1- = VG/F, 1= good F to VF, 1+=EF, 01= AU, 0/01 = AU58-MS63/64, 0=MS65. Your coins would grade 1, with remarks for rim dings. Mintage of these coins are 1.000.000 for the 2 øre 1891 and 3.000.000 for the 1 øre 1893. This means they are very common, and unless collecting Norway becomes the new fad, they are not worth very much, I'm afraid. Here are two similar coins grading somewhere between 1+ and 01. The discussion about how to grade these coins is ongoing. But what else is new
They are great looking coins. The ones i have were carried aboard ship for 25 years by my father in law(in the norwegian merchant navy) who added to his collection at every port they stopped in. So i guess proximity to the salty air didn't help
Both the coins and your father in law have been through some hardship then! They are good looking and affordable. The Norwegian coinage of Oscar II is pretty neat in general.
