I have a simple question. Is this normal to have the MM so high up into the date. Its not touching but I looked at some other 44s I have and none of them are like this. Is this position common?

What is the 'MM'? Perhaps I'm just tired.

Let's put it this way. It's not uncommon.

Since they were hand-punched on the dies up until... 1989(I think that's the year) they can vary considerably. There is no "normal position" besides being below the date lol.

Yes, they were hand-punched into the working dies until 1990.

If you have the opportunity, compare the positions of the mintmarks on a bunch of same-date Kennedy half dollars. You will find them all over the place.
