I am wondering if this is an authentic non-plated zinc cent? Is there a way to find out? Thanks!

IMO, it was a high school chemistry experiment where students use chemicals to dissolve the copper layer and the zinc core is left behind. After the 'coolness' of it wears off, it gets spent. I have a few that I've found over the years.
