From the pics it sure doesn't look 66 , it looks like luster break over her ear , looks like an old label too . IMO rzage
But this is something I heard so don't take it as fact , that they are getting more lenient lately . rzage:thumb:
the reason why they gave it that grade, because of the prooflike fields it brings it up a few notches JAZZCOINS Joe
What you are seeing are blemishes, more than scratches on the chin etc etc . The fields have a nice light cameo proof like look to them even through they didn't designate that in the slab. i believe that;s why the coin probably made that grade like i said before. Jazzcoins Joe
Ruben, There is a difference between luster grazes and bag marks. There is no way to tell from that original photo if the chin chatter is either one. My guess is that they are mostly luster grazes given the assigned grade. Your MS63PL is nice but angled photos of PL coins tend to hide defects. If you took a straight on photo of both coins with the same camera, I think you would clearly see why each was graded the way they were. Paul
PAUL thanks. I still think though that there is a problem with the grade. It seems to be not the only one on that site for some reason. A 66 should be near flawless of any luster break and we should be looking at strike quality and looking for the smallest nicks. Ruben
I agree that it looks liberally graded, it is just that that pic/scan is really bad. I can't remember the last Morgan Dollar I saw overgraded by more than one point. It is a very easy series to grade and one that every grader has much experience grading. Definitely no sticker for that dog.
