1990 $50-- No point in my bank deposit...

I went to the bank today to deposit $50, I did, got some $2's, then my mother took out some money and got a 1990 $50 bill (old style). There was no point in my deposit because I'm gonna have to take the $50 from her!!!! While giving me the $2's, I saw the back of an old $20 bill on the teller's desk..... :(

Thought I'd share because no one I know cares!!! :D
Is it normal to see the "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" from the back on the reverse? See area of Grant's head in the pic.

I wonder if that is bleed through or possible ink from another dollar that was stacked on top of it?

Not an expert of bills by no means. Heck really not even a novice!

if you hold it up to the light and the words line up, i think bleed through... if misaligned, it's ink from another bill

No it is not a "bleed through" There is no such thing. The ink is not that thin and the paper is not that absorbent. Notes like that are formed in one of two ways. Either an incompletely dry note transfered its image to the sheet behind it while the were stacked, or a sheet fails to feed in the press and the printing plate transfers the ink to the "backing board". Then when the next sheet enters the press it gets intaglio printed on on side and offset printed from the ink on the backing boad on the other side. As each subsequent sheet is printed, the offset printed side gets fainter and fainter untill all of the ink is gone. The only problem is tha there is no way to know which method actually caused it because both methods result in the exact same image. The reverse image is transfered to the front of the paper and is then overprinted by the face printing. If the facei mage is seen on the back it is always printed on TOP of the back printing.
