Hi, I found a 2000 P Massachusetts Quarter that seems to not have a center/middle clad layer; it seems to be just solid metal. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Pics attached. Thanks, Chris
The outside surface is clad, Obverse and Reverse - Cupro-Nickel The core is Copper.. not a middle clad layer Your Quarter is plated after it left the Mint. Damaged.
Third on "plated". Compare it to other quarters, and you'll see that the texture of the surfaces is very different -- plating a coin produces a finish that looks nothing like a struck surface. Welcome to CoinTalk!
People with bad intent sometimes plated the quarters with silver, chrome, sometimes even gold or platinum and then tried to sell them at ridiculous prices. Unfortunately, some people bought them. When they realized they were worthless and they had been scammed, some people just spent them. That appears to be what you have.
Quite a few companies sold sets of silver plated, platinum plated and gold plated state quarters, this looks like one. Minimal value.
