Somewhere I think I saw talk of Sac dollars being found with no eyeballs. A 10 minute search could not locate any info here. Is there such an error? I have a 2000P dollar I got in a yard sale lot and it looks like she has no eyeballs. Anyone recall anything like this?
Are you refering to the Cats Eye variety? A result of an overpolished die that erased some details in the eye area?
That could very well be it. Something looks odd with her eyes. I haven't had time to take pics yet. Still going through the rest of the yard sale lot. One thing I am very pleased with is a 1890 Liberty V nickle that may grade at least XF-45 to AU-50. Looked up values and wow. That one coin is worth 4 times what I paid for the whole jar full of coins. The best darn V nickle I ever owned.
The guy had a bunch of coins in an old vase. He shook the upside down vase into a box and the coins fell out. I picked up the nickle out of the box and quickly put it back like it was nothing then made a deal for the lot. He says $25 and I countered with $15. He says $20 and I say $17. He firmly says $20 and I whip out a twenty and get the heck out of there. Mostly foreign, some interesting older 1918 and 1916 5 phennig, a few other nice older coins, five $1 US coins (one being the Sac in question). Three 1964 Kennedys and one 1963 Franklin. Maybe 40 foreign coins, some strange ones at that. I thought I made out good until I got home and really looked at the 1890 nickle with a 10X loupe. I kind of pinched my arm to see if I was dreaming. I'm on third shift and the sun is going down here or I'd take a few photos. I'll get some pics going in the next day or two.
nice pickup ... i shutter that you knew the coins might be worth more and still bartered... but, whats done is done.. post picks when you can
Why shouldn't he try for a better price? Half of the fun is negotiating. If you find a better variety in a dealer's showcase do you tell them? Or just consider it a good find?
a dealer? nah! i will let them not know they had somethign worth more. but there is a differance there.. a dealer SHOULD know. a guy on the street at a yard sale should be given the benifit IMHO no worries, no grudges! I was just surprised.
