Larry - go to http://www.maddieclashes.com/ and see if your coin has been attributed. It's a clash where the die has been reworked to remove/reduce the design transfer but witness marks (the clash evidence) appear on your coin. For some years, you can almost build a series of clashes.
I’m a little confused on what u mean? I’m very new to coin collecting and errors? Started a few months ago lol
Welcome to the world of Variety Collecting!! Never a dull moment when you CRH. Every coin has potential. If you go to the site I posted, you'll find a bunch of information about Clashes, especially those that folks are most interested in acquiring. There are also a number of links at the site that lead you to the broader world of errors and varieties (DDOs/DDRs, Cuds on Coins, Trails, Lincoln Varieties). So much to explore and have fun with. Many folks get involved in coin collecting to build sets or acquire old coinage. But many expand to the fringes of collecting and start to target varieties and error coins (oddities). When I started to CRH, I would race through a box of Cents in a couple of hours: dump and look for the old coins (LWCs and IHCs). But as you'll see or already know, finding a dozen or less keepers out of 2500 may not seem overly productive. However, if you expand your hunt to include error coins, varieties, and high grade/MS coins, you slow down the process and make it more productive. For instance, finding 10 wheat cents might be worth a dollar or so. However, find one 1998 WAM Lincoln Cent...$8-10. 1999 WAM...maybe $100. So most of the value for me during a CRH is finding a coveted variety or a decent DDO/DDR. having a list of what you are looking for helps a great deal since there are so many to find. And of course, finding a strong clash or a clipped coin is fun...along with the LWCs and IHCs if you are lucky.
Very well said! I appreciated it! I was confused why u mentioned attributed. I have found a 1999 wide am, a clipped planchet(maybe on that). And many crack dies and chips in just a few months. I appreciate u sending me the link. And yes! I slowed down tremendously, coin hunting rolls. I already have prob a hundred 2x2 filled No ddr or ddo. I’m using a magnify glass as of now.
Sounds like you are picking up quickly! It takes me a couple weeks to search a box these days as I only put in a couple hours a night and study the subject coins for known varieties but then for errors also. Flipping consistently with the top of the coin at 12 o'clock, for instance, helps you find the rotated dies (there's a site for those too). You'll discover tricks for yourself that will assist in your efficiency during a CRH event. Good luck...and have fun!!
It takes hours and hours of reading/learning to make the hours and hours of searching worthwhile. Trust me, spend the time reading everything you can, it'll make your searching more useful. If you have questions about how an error is made, please ask. Knowing how they're made helps you know what is and is not an error. It takes a while, trust me, lots of my older posts say "is this an error????" and I now know it clearly isn't. Here's a great website: http://www.error-ref.com/
