I'm a bit surprised a how much die wear the Philadelphia Mint considered acceptable for a NIFC mintage of only 2,500,000. Sold at a premium over face with collectors in mind! (excuse my photography here but I think it gets the point across)
Interestingly snarky, and I should know! When you think about it more, it actually makes sense. When they do the "roll and bag only" (NIFC = RABO) Kennedys, they know in advance how many they want to run. If some dies get ruined somehow, they can be tempted to "overuse" the rest rather than make more new striking dies. Also, it's from Philly, where the motto is, "Hey, what YOU lookin' at?"
Warranty? And where did I say that I expected one? It's just 50 cents to me anyway. I simply expressed my surprise that a product sold at a premium for collectors is produced with such low quality standards.
The two NIFC Kennedys I've found were both 2010-P, and both looked like they'd been to Afghanistan and back. You figure a NIFC coin should be a smidge nicer than your average, but not so!
If they mint 50 or 60 thousand, and they fall from the press into a bin, the ones on top of the bin would look like that. When they package them for release, the ones on top of the bin will be released and qualify for the Coveted "FIRST STRIKE". If they push these bins into a storage room, then the last bin in the room is the first one out. What a joke those labels are.
Just because they didn't specifically 'warrant' their quality is no reason not to expect better than this for a product intended for collectors. It's just bad business only made worse by the fact that, as you so appropriately note, there is no warranty. I imagine that there are collectors out there who paid a premium and would be a bit displeased to open a roll only to find it full of these. Surprise!!!
Wow, that's pretty bad... I've got 130 or so NIFCs, and none of them look even close to that poorly struck.
Wow, so YOU'RE the guy who never heard ADC's umm, humor. Stand up comedy guy from the late 80's / early 90's primarily with an exaggerated 50's/60's motorhead "greaser" persona combined with a particularly vulgar line of now racially and gender, and especially gender ID, offensive material. He used a very "northeast city / Philly / Brooklyn" sort of speech affectation. His "shtick" was to counter the then-current burgeoning PC beginnings with "shock talk" no one else was yet using.
Yup, except Carlin's bit was quasi-intellectual in tone. Clay's was anything but; his was overtly counter-intellectual. More street thuggish. His "signature bit" was vulgarized nursery rhymes that would set your hair on fire.
After hearing Eddie Murphy for the first time ages ago, I've never cared for stand-up comedians. And, now that you've mentioned that ADC is one, I'm not even going to bother googling him. Chris
Really??? Are you serious? or just disagreeable? Who else willingly pays $32.95 for $20.00 worth of Halves?
