    AE 18 of Nicopolis.

Looks like Elagabalus, but might be Caracalla, I suppose.

    Reverse reads: ΝΙΚΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ / ΠΡΟC

The problem is that I can't find a match to the usual catalogs for this reverse inscription. It's not quite Pick AMNG 2029 and not quite Moushmov 1424

@John Anthony -- Do you think this is Caracalla? Would you be so kind as to look up Varbanov 2942, 2946 and 3007 and see if these are a match? Thanks!

2942 is a tripod reverse. 2946 is cataloged as having obverse legend MAP AV K ANTΩNIN with bareheaded, draped bust right, but the reverse inscription is NIKOΠOΛIT ΠPOC IC. 3007 is a smaller denomination, AE15, although its particulars are the same as 2946, so its possibly just an undersized version of the same.

I've discovered that it's not uncommon to find inscriptions from Nikopolis that don't match recorded coins. Varbanov is impressively extensive, but by no means exhaustive. I do believe it's a coin of Caracalla with obverse legend MAP AV K ANTΩNIN, bare head right. The reverse inscription is NIKOΠOΛITΩN // ΠPOC, which was a legend variant used on other types during the same period, so it's no surprise to find it on this coin. If you want to use Varbanov as a reference, I would call it 2946 var (reverse legend).

Here's a little assarion of Septimius Severus from nearby Philippopolis with a lion advancing left for comparison:

Anything goes on Provincials. Every die was an original. My Septimius goes retrograde in the exergue.

Coin arrived in the mail today. It is almost certainly Caracalla, Varbanov 3007, at 1.92 g and 15.4 mm. Obv reads: [MA]P AV K ANTΩNIN; reverse reads NIKOΠOΛITΩ ΠPOC I[C]. Moushmov 1111; similar to AMNG 1599.

    Thanks again to @John Anthony
