They look normal to me,mm's were still hand punched into the die and both positions are quite normal you have a total of 10 cents.

That variety(high D) is for the year 1975 and they are extremely rare, way more than just a $1.

No but you could probably find the 6 year old article from coin world about it.

There is a 1975-D Nickel that is worth a thousand or more depending on the condition. It’s called a high D. The mint mark was hand punched until 1989 I believe so they appear in numerous places. The high D is almost touching the curve in the 5 of the date. Yours isn’t even close. Welcome to CT.

Welcome to CT @Jjpe. Correctly orientated, cropped FULL IMAGE photos with close-ups of the MM would certainly help. My old neck just don't bend like it used to.

Q David Bowers noticed the High D several years ago on a circulated coin and it peaked is interest so he made a $1,000 offer for the FIRST uncirculated piece offered to him. It does appear to be a scarce variety but I seriously doubt they are now worth $1,000 in any condition. It just isn't in that high a demand. But people keep hearing about that $1,000 offer (Which has long since been collected on.) and think it is very valuable.
