nickle cud?

1988 p with from what I take as a cud error? if not please correct me. and is there a value?

It does appear to be a minor cud. Nice find! I would say $7-12.

Yes, that is a cud. By definition, a cud is a die break along the rim that extends into the field. Depending on the size of the break, you may also see some weakening of the strike on the opposite side of the coin because the metal flowed into the void left by the break rather than into the devices.
