I found this 1969-S nickel while searching through nickel rolls. I was wondering if anybody could tell if it was real or not and how it happend. Also how much it could possibly be worth. Thanks

Looks like it might be what is called a dropped letter. You can read about it - HERE

snowracer919 that is a very unique find and if it is truely a dropped letter its value will go up considerably. You won't know for sure until you submit it for authentification and grading so you have a decision to make. Good luck.

Given how the surface around the letter seems to be raised I would have to say post mint damage. If it was a dropped letter the area around the drop would have stayed flat since the face of the die would have prevented it from rippling.

Don't take my word for it though keep checking I am by no means an experienced collecter.

How would you get a “D” drop on an “S” coin?

It's post-strike damage. The pressure ridge around the crater says it all.

Law if it were from god it would have to have really been from GOD since the image of the D shrunk by about 50% before being stuck again.

I took the question as seperate from the coin pictured. How would you get a D drop on a S mint coin. Thus my smart-aleckie answer :D
