I was taking one last look at a fairly large accumulation of nickels before cashing them in and came across this one. It has a raised bump in the field on the reverse above Monticello. Just wondering if there is any reason to think this possibly holds more than face value and what could have caused it.

Also, the MM looks a little strange, but I just noticed that after uploading these pics, probably just damage.

Looks like a Die Chip. It's worn die strike on the surfaces. See the Striations and orange peel affect?

Yes, very much a peel look.
Seems somewhat odd, to me anyway, for a die to get a chip in such a location away from the lettering and designs, no?

Could be related to the die usage. Those dies are extremely worn.

Thanks for the input, @paddyman98 and @Oldhoopster I’ll keep this one. Since I just cashed in about 6,000 nickels, I think I can find room for it.

I agree with Paddyman on worn die, cracks at bottom corners of Monticello.
Die chip / gouge with possible cause from a foreign object being previous struck.

Looks like die chips but that nickel was minted from an extremely worn die.

I did not even notice those cracks in the corners. And it even appears the part of the die above the cello ‘C’ had broken away as well.
