Nickel Lamination Error?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Tired-of-Cards, Apr 11, 2013.

  1. Found this Nickel today! 1978 P, I have not seen anything like it before, I am assuming lamination error. It has a second layer of metal very thin (yet thicker than say, aluminum foil), It does not appear to be P.M.D. but I am no expert. There are actually 2 different pieces that you can fold down and up, which I have shown for sake of pictures(& I never will again, in fear of them breaking off). Any Ideas? Thanks 053.jpg 055.jpg 058.jpg 060.jpg 064.jpg

Cool find. A partially detached lamanation.
You probably shouldn't have lifted the large piece up as it looks creased, if you bent it?

It sure is. A nice one too. Be careful with it. I've seen dramatic ones like that go for upwards of $100.

  5. I lifted it very carefully, & as far as I can tell did not damage it at all. The "crease" or what I like to call "the hinge" was already there. Pic #2 is pretty much how I found it... Thanks!

It probably got bent in circulation. It looks fairly secure but be careful with it like jallen said, these are much more desired with the pieces attached.

Great find will echo the value of a $100. plus error coin. and to find it all attached even makes it even better :thumb:
