Nickel Error

    I have a nickel (i forget year i think mid 50s) that is missing the tails side. I have no idea what it would be worth nowdays, its in really good condition.

    Neat...I have never seen something like this...maybe Mike can tell us more about them.

    I wonder if its a Capped Die error?

    I agree with you Speedy that is an odd critter at first I thought maybe
    a capped die but I would think the front would have some damage but
    I really don't see anything out of the ordinary...beats me !! It's definatly a keeper IMO ! :cool:

    It looks like the reverse face was removed outside the mint. It's also possible that some solder was applied to the reverse face. In either case, the coin looks like it's been vandalized.

    face wasnt removed it is domed, and there are no lines along the edges to make it seem soldierd

    A domed shape is not something that a coinage press would create under any circumstances.

    It looks to me like a "lovers coin?" (cant think of its name) that was put back in circulation and worn down.
    lovers coin = a coin that has had one side taken off and replaced with an engraving
    but thats just me :p
